Born and brought up in Loni, India, Anjira, daughter of Mrs. Meena and Prof. Vishwanath Vikhe is the youngest amongst the four siblings. Anjira went on to do her schoolings from Pravara English Medium School, Loni. In school, she loved sports and played cricket and basketball. She is a national cricket player and represented Maharashtra for under-16 cricket nationals. Motivated by her father’s profession as a professor in plant and dairy science, Anjira chose Biology as her major and pursued her undergraduate studies in the said field from Padmashri. Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil (PVP) College, Loni. After her undergraduate studies, Anjira did her Masters in Medical Biotechnology from Pravara Medical Trust’s College of Medical Biotechnology.
On graduating, Anjira worked for Cryosave-India a Stem Cells banking company for around 14 months. She then joined Alere-India, one of the leading diagnostics companies where she worked as a senior customer relations executive for two years. Further, she worked for a French diagnostic firm “Biomerieux”, where she held a critical position of a senior marketing and business executive in Mumbai. In 2010, Anjira married Dr. Swapnil B. Ambade and moved to South Korea. She then pursued her MBA studies in the areas of Management Information Systems (MIS). While the transition from industry to academia was quite a challenge initially and considering the language barrier in South Korea, Anjira came out with flying colors in her MBA. Also, daughter Sara was born in the midst of her MBA, and she could happily manage her studies and motherhood, thanks to a well-planned balance she had planned and executed for herself.
After her MBA, Anjira joined Prof. Dongmei Wu’s research group of Cardiovascular and Pharmacology, where she is currently pursuing Ph.D. on cardiovascular injuries. While juggling between the roles of a student, mother, wife, and a daughter-in-law, Anjira balances the myriad of responsibilities optimistically and in a very enthusiastic manner. She is a keen follower of Mrs. Indra Nooyi, Chairperson & CEO of PepsiCo and sees a role model in her.
